Nelson Mandela documentary in development: Iran director

Iranian director Meysam Shahbabaee says his documentary on late South African leader Nelson Mandela is currently underway.

The director told local media on Friday that his latest documentary renamed from ‘Nelson Mandela Forever’ to ‘Special Event’ is at the technical stage, adding his film took a new twist with a genre change to “docufiction.”

The reason for such change was that many docs have already made on Mandela, the helmer notes, adding he decided to focus on an event happened to the director who was present at the South African former leader’s funeral.

The director and artistic crew of the film have earlier visited South Africa in preparation for shooting the final parts of the film.

The documentary chronicles the life story of anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, who died on December 5, 2013, focusing on the forgotten concepts in human relations

The cast of ‘Nelson Mandela Forever’ includes Iranian actors such as Mahtab Keramati, Tirdad Kiaei and Amir Shariat.
